MORE ABOUT HALOSOURCE

LEADERSHIP | HISTORY

HaloSource will become recognized as the leading clean water and antimicrobial technology company, providing innovative solutions that benefit human health worldwide.

Founded in 2002 in Seattle, Washington, HaloSource has grown to be a worldwide company with offices and processing plants spanning the globe. At HaloSource, we are committed to enhancing the technology that drives the success of our partners’ products.

HaloSource is founded on a strong and rapidly expanding IP portfolio focusing on two core technologies; N-halamines and Chitosan. N-halamines harness the power of chlorine and bromine for drinking water and antimicrobial treatments, used in the HaloPure and HaloShield business units.  Chitosan chemistry, used in the StormKlear and SeaKlear business units, binds sediments and other pollutants or impurities in water so they can be filtered out, for use in: recreational water,  industrial water, construction site run-off and other wastewater or  water recycling needs.

In 2006, HaloPure launched in India in partnership with Eureka Forbes, India's  leading provider of home water purifiers. In early 2008 a partnership was formed with Chanitex, a leading Chinese water treatment company and in Brazil, with Everest,  a consumer water device manufacturer.  Additional negotiations are underway with a number of key companies for the use of HaloPure technology in a variety of consumer product applications.

Since 2008, HaloSource's HaloShield antimicrobial technology has been incorporated by Clorox, the leading bleach brand in the US, to offer Clorox FreshCare antimicrobial towels at Wal-Mart stores throughout the US.

HaloSource has manufacturing facilities in Raymond, Washington, Bangalore, India, Pakistan, and Shanghai, China. Key investors include Mars, Unilever and the Masdar Clean-Tech Fund.

HaloSource looks for partners who seek competitive differentiation through unique, proprietary technologies. HaloSource provides tested and proven solutions that reliably and effectively purify water and kill germs.

John Kaestle
President and CEO

I joined HaloSource as President and CEO in March 2004. My mission was to build a strong, diverse leadership team, to focus the company’s resources and core technologies to achieve sustainable advantage, and to create shareholder value. What I brought to the effort was twenty-five years of building and running global businesses and working in the areas of sales, finance, operations, business development and technology. Today, I spend most of my time asking questions, interacting with partners and investors, and supporting our leadership team. I probably get the most satisfaction from helping our people grow, develop and take on new responsibilities. I’m very proud that embedded in the HaloSource culture is the conviction that we are making a difference and the desire to have a positive impact on global human health.

Eric Robinson
Executive VP, Operations / Supply Chain / Regulatory / Quality

I joined HaloSource in 2004 as the Executive Vice President of Operations. I also serve as the Chairman of our India and China subsidiary companies. I wear several hats at HaloSource, including operations, regulatory compliance, quality assurance, product engineering and supply chain leadership. I spend much of my time working to build and expand our international and domestic supply capabilities, and to align our operational and execution strategies with our commercial growth. And I travel a lot internationally to get all this done. The challenges are big, but the work is very rewarding.

Jeff Williams
Senior VP/CTO

Coming into the founding of HaloSource ten years ago, after a thirty-year career in researching infectious diseases, I had a pretty good idea what health benefits could come from new technology to make water safe to drink. What I hadn’t appreciated was the scale of the challenge: taking innovative polymer chemistry from the academic laboratory bench into the stream of global commerce, and the fascinating mix of scientific, business and financial expertise needed to realize the vision we had for the company at its origin. Participating in that process, as HaloSource’s Chief Technology Officer, I play an immensely satisfying role within a seasoned and uniquely prepared management team. My role stretches my professional capabilities to their limits on a daily basis as I strive to keep abreast of developments in chemistry and engineering; the shifting impact of globalization on markets and product applications; and the pressing need to ensure the visibility, credibility and acceptance of our novel antimicrobial technologies in a highly competitive, changing world. What has endured is the commitment, broadly felt in all quarters of the company, to do our best to do good—and do well—with the extraordinary resources we have in the creativity and versatility of our products, and in the talents and potential of our people.

Rick Lockett
Senior VP, Water

As Senior Vice President of Water, I work to ensure the success of our water clarification businesses. On any given day, that can mean a focus on sales execution, product development, organizational strategy, recruiting, or most important, working directly with our customers and channel partners. Building our business one customer at a time and delivering high-quality, innovative products and solutions is what we do at HaloSource. My background in retail, sales and management has allowed me to bring experience and new ideas to HaloSource and to build a creative, committed sales team. Leading that team and helping them succeed and grow in their careers while building a company whose mission is to make a meaningful impact on people’s lives is what makes working at HaloSource such a rewarding experience for me.

Debbie Krogman
Director of Human Resources

When I joined HaloSource in June 2006, I knew I was becoming part of an organization that was going to change and evolve. I was attracted by the experience and strength of the management team, the technical expertise of the research staff, and the opportunity to be part of what I felt was going to be an exciting and fast-growing company. As the first employee dedicated to the human resources (HR) role, I had the opportunity to contribute to and shape the culture of the organization. Having worked in both large, traditional companies and smaller, biotech environments, I felt I could jump in and be effective pretty quickly. Working with a highly intelligent and capable group of employees and strong management team is an HR manager’s “dream job”—and that’s what I’ve found at HaloSource. While the challenges of commercializing a revolutionary technology are enormous, I continue to be motivated by our mission of solving a basic human health problem, and by the people who have devoted their careers to making this happen.

Everett Nichols
VP, Research & Development

I joined HaloSource in July 1995, as Director of Research and Development. My knowledge of and experience with the natural biopolymers chitin and chitosan and a variety of complex carbohydrate oligosaccharides allowed me to play a significant role in the company’s growth and development. The fascinating chemical properties of chitosan and the myriad of potentially useful applications that this natural biopolymer offers are both exciting and motivating. I am fortunate in having the opportunity to direct and participate in the discovery, development and commercialization of a variety of successful products, many of which are chitosan based and are proving to be useful in water treatment and human health. Currently, as HaloSource’s Vice President of Research and Development and a member of a seasoned management team, I provide a technical, strategic perspective and solutions to complex technical problems. I find it highly gratifying that my guidance contributes to the development of innovative, life-enhancing products. In addition, I help protect our inventions through my role in managing HaloSource’s intellectual property portfolio, which consists of more than 130 patents and pending patent applications. Developing technologies into useful products is extremely challenging but rewarding, especially when I hear of the satisfaction that our customers experience from using our products. Our progress depends on the talents, knowledge and skills of an entire team of people, and I enjoy participating in the growth and development of these highly motivated and talented people.

Andrew Clews
VP, Marketing & Product Development

Transitioning in mid-2007 from a senior role in a multibillion-dollar global corporation to my new role as VP of Marketing at HaloSource was an incredibly energizing experience. Fifteen-plus years of international business gave me a solid foundation on which to build, and the knowledge that I could measurably and directly affect the development of our company from day one was just the dynamic change I was looking for.

There are few companies that offer such a unique combination of characteristics as HaloSource does, and there are even fewer opportunities for most of us to contribute to such a company’s growth. My role requires a combination of vision, strategy and teamwork; our days are filled with new and exciting challenges, pride, setbacks and successes. Supported by leading-edge technology, our business momentum is building in every region of the world, and our brand is resonating with consumers from Seattle to Shanghai and Mumbai to Miami.

The HaloSource story is truly a remarkable one of courage, determination and groundbreaking success—something I’m proud to be a part of.

James Thompson
CFO

I joined HaloSource as Vice President and Chief Financial Officer in July 2004. I have been affiliated with the company since 2002, when I was a member of Alexander Hutton Venture Partners, one of the company’s primary investors. Each of our leadership team members brings a unique perspective; mine is financial discipline and an acumen for raising capital. I bring to the company fifteen years of corporate and operation finance experience, helping young companies grow. My passion for the HaloSource story is many years in the making, and I find it highly rewarding to see the company’s products in the marketplace, making a positive impact on human health.
